My parents can’t understand why I took so many of the “kitsch” things in their attic that belonged to my great grandparents. And sometimes, I question my choice, too (read: every time I move). But they bring me soooo much joy. And I truly believe they have helped make my interior design style unique.
I love this article! I'm a firm lover of the "weird and wonderful" and so many of my clothing acquisitions fall into that. I like the things others don't so shopping secondhand feeds that itch. When I used to shop clothing retail, I always found the best stuff on the 80% off clearance racks, all the rejects and stuff that was too "out there" - that's what I love.
"Often the art we come across at thrift stores is, simply put, kind of weird. It’s stuff no one else wanted and most people don’t know what to do with it. But as the spaces here demonstrate, the weird stuff — the “wrong” stuff — can still be so beautiful when styled in a thoughtful way."
Perfect, could not say it better!
Thanks so much for this awesome article, Virginia! I would love to shop with you.
A little tacky makes the world go 'round...it's like visual vulnerability. It's okay if not everyone gets it, tack is in the eye/heart of the beholder❤️
