If there is one question I am asked almost daily, it is this: What’s the name of your favorite thrift store? The answer is almost always that I go to as many as I can, as often as I can. But there are some gems out there—it just takes a little while to round them all up.
I have for a long time wanted to create really useful, paid subscriber-only content, where I detail exactly where I shop when I travel (or when I’m home, in Ponte Vedra and the surrounding areas). So, I’m starting this week. Paid subscribers will receive at least one special newsletter each month, and get to access the full archives.
Some paid subscriber-only editions will focus on specific towns or states and where to thrift/shop/eat in each (think city-guides, with a specific focus on thrifting). Others will focus on one specific hidden gem—places where I have found true gems and know that you will, too (these are my “secret spots,” so to speak).
This first edition is an attempt at starting to answer the above question. Of course, Jacksonville is massive. I toyed with the idea of doing one sprawling city guide but it would just be too lengthy, frankly, for Substack’s character count. So this is Part I, and it focuses on one area of the city in which I would recommend anyone looking for the good stuff kick off their search.
