I don’t talk a lot about my “real” job mostly because, well, it’s work. It’s not my entire identity. But it is pretty fun. As a staff writer for People magazine, I get to interview a lot of interesting people and last week, I traveled to Orlando to cover MegaCon — which is kind of like ComicCon, just in Florida. In short: lots of fans, lots of Star Wars costumes, and lots of celebrities (which is really what I was there for, work-wise). Jude Law, Matt Smith, Priscilla Presley, the entire cast of The Breakfast Club, Ron Howard …. it was a lot to take in and super fascinating.
Of course, I had to do some thrifting on my drive in.
I woke up early on Thursday to drive to Orlando, knowing I was going to stop at an estate sale on the way in. But just one hour into the two-and-a-half hour drive, I stumbled across a new-to-me antiques shop, out in the middle of nowhere. It was so cute that, as it passed on my right, I decided I had to do a U-turn to get a proper look. And I’m so glad I did. Just look at this needlepoint I scored for under $100!
This post is for paid subscribers. In addition to learning about the wonderful vintage store where I scored this piece and the other places I thrifted in Central Florida last week, paying subscribers also get access to nearly three years’ worth of past issues, including guides to some of my favorite places to thrift (like Jacksonville, Atlanta, Greensboro, Palm Coast and others). As a bonus, paid subscribers are automatically entered into seasonal giveaways. This month, one paid subscriber will win the gorgeous Completedworks x Merit mirrored compact and a Merit makeup bag.
