Last weekend I had the opportunity to visit High Point Market for the first time. It was insane. I flew from Atlanta (where I did four stage appearances at the North Atlanta Home Show) directly to Greensboro, Ubered to my hotel, passed out, then woke up a few hours later to arrive at High Point at 8 AM the next morning. The next 48 hours was kind a blur and consisted of more than a dozen showroom tours, a lot of walking, and so much over-stimulation that I left feeling inspired and, yes, exhausted.
After more than 20,000 steps across showroom floors, here are the three takeaways that I brought home with me — plus some more favorite moments from the showrooms.
Sectionals have gone glam. Obviously, the popularity of sectionals is nothing new. They offer an easy way to configure a seating arrangement as well as an excellent place to lie down and binge the David Beckham documentary (highly recommend, btw). But many of the sectionals being introduced now are lightyears ahead of their lived-in, constantly-has-to-be-fluffed counterparts.
Cocktail tables can be coffee tables. One of my favorite trends of the moment is the use of smaller side tables or cocktail tables (of varying heights) in lieu of a traditional coffee table. It looks so chic in a large room.
Vintage remains the best source of inspiration. Unsurprisingly, I saw so many pieces that were directly inspired by iconic vintage designs, like this tessellated stone coffee table (a dead ringer for this vintage piece) and this very John Dickinson-esque side table (at an easier-to-swallow price point).
And here are a few other moments I found really inspirational at High Point…
and I’ll leave you with this…
