My niche, when it comes to thrifting, is to find items that are either: A. valuable, designer pieces of the past or B. the pieces that inspire the valuable, designer items of today. I sort of pride myself on the fact that, when I get dressed or style a room in my home, it’s difficult to ascertain what cost $5, and what cost $500.
Lately, that’s meant my purchases have been bright and colorful — color is having something of a renaissance, I think, and likely because of the season. And I want to summer-ize everything. I still love a vintage 1990s Calvin Klein slip dress, but I want to pair it with a cherry red clutch, a pair of mesh flats, and a $3 shell belt from Goodwill that looks suspiciously like this $380 version.
The summery ethos is making its way into my home, as well, where I’m really digging a color palette of deep pinks punctuated by stark black and white. Like this:
With this vibe in mind, I’m sharing some recent items I’ve thrifted and showing you how I plan on styling them. Because the most challenging part of thrifting or shopping vintage is having the vision — you’ve got to be able to foresee what you could make a piece look like once you style it with your own stuff.

BOGO deal: I talk about this lipstick all the time on Instagram. That’s because I am obsessed with it: it’s a pencil that you don’t have to sharpen (like a lipstick, you just twist the bottom and more product appears). It’s also a creamy consistency and it lasts for hours. Literally hours. And starting today, it’s on BOGO. No need for a code, you just add an extra lipstick to your cart, and one of them is deducted from your total. My preferred shade is Gabriella Beige Rose. You’re welcome.
What I’m buying during the big Nordstrom sale: I’m not a huge sale day shopper, in that I don’t necessarily use sales as an excuse to buy a bunch of stuff I don’t need. Instead, I use them to stock up on items I always use — or splurge on items I’ve been eyeing that are now on major discount. For me, that means buying another pair of these washable silk pajamas that I have worn for years, or splurging on the Dyson AirWrap (more than $100 off).
and I’ll leave you with this…
