It is quite cold in Florida this week — and around the rest of the country, where temperatures have dropped to brutal conditions. Us Floridians don’t have much of a winter to speak of, but for so many, sweater-and-pants weather stretches far beyond January. It’s such a weird time to get dressed, isn’t it? When you wake up and it’s 30 but by the need of the day, it’s in the 60s? My advice is to wear light layers — a tank, a silky pant, a flat with socks — that you can remove as the day progresses. The items below are exactly what I’m in the mood to be wearing right this instant — a combo of light pink and chocolate brown that somehow feels very feminine and very, dare I say, very babygirl.
What is “babygirl,” exactly? It’s one of those words that’s morphed over time. These days, you don’t use it to describe a young girl, or even your girlfriend. You use it to describe a hot man who seems in touch with his softer side (Exhibit A: Jacob Elordi). But aesthetically, there’s a real babygirl vibe shift we’re seeing too. Bows are back. As is pink. As are ballet flats.
So here’s what I’m wearing as a means of babygirling myself as best I can.
Big bows are really scratching the babygirl itch for me at the moment and this one is ideal. Just slightly oversized, in the perfect shade of chocolate brown.
The mesh flat trend shows no signs of dying down, so wear them now, with socks, and later, with bare feet.
These jumbo gold earrings look like the Bottega Veneta version that every celebrity has but are far less expensive.
Sisley’s jumbo pencil lip balm is impossibly chic. They make some of my favorite makeup products.
I have a pair of bouclé pants by Lauren Manoogian and I have probably worn them at least once a week since I got them. This is the sweater version of those pants and boy does it look cozy. I’d wear it with these silk pj-style pants, which can easily transition outside of the house.
I love a good novelty tote and this one, a collab between Kule and Bergdorf Goodman, is a good reminder to check out the pop-up shop featuring my art now on the seventh floor of the iconic department store.
I adore this hand cream for the colder months but it works in the summer, too, as it’s rich with SPF (and your hands fast, so it’s best to load up on the sun protection).
This ring will never go out of style and happens to be on final sale, for less than $200.
