Over the decades I’ve spent shopping for high-end, designer furnishings, I’ve amassed a roster of “secret spots” — places I go to find really incredible things that honestly never fail me. I’m sharing one of them today, because I love you.
You’re probably well aware that my whole deal is thrifting (I wrote a book on the subject, it’s all I talk about on Instagram, etc.) but I’m pretty skilled at finding high-end pieces just about…anywhere.
Years ago, I was TJ Maxx’s first-ever official Maxxinista, after I tagged TJ’s in a Facebook post when I found a designer dress at one of their Jacksonville locations. (Over the years, I’ve found everything from Valentino runway couture to Missoni home items and even Balenciaga at TJ’s and Marshall’s stores—and I promise, a newsletter with tips on how to shop those stores is coming).
But it isn’t just TJ’s, thrift stores, and outlet malls that have designer pieces at a discount. In fact, Jacksonville, Florida is home to a store that has pretty incredible designer home finds at a steep, steep discount — and they’re all brand-new, never-used pieces.
More on that below — and it’s geared toward paid subscribers (I do one paid subscriber email per month, on the first Sunday, and the rest are all free).
But here are some other odds and ends, because I love all of you.
4 things I loved this week:
I dropped a new series of original pieces of art on Chairish. This one has proven the most popular.
We watched Theater Camp on Hulu. It’s kind of like a mix of The Office and the best Disney show that no one talks about — which transformed reality tv IMO — Bug Juice. It’s a faux documentary about theater camp and the counselors who teach it with Ben Platt, Molly Gordon, Patti Harrison and others. It was very funny.
Who will be the first magazine writer to drop a Taylor Swift profile and title it “Seemingly Swift?” This woman is so powerful.
I made this broccoli calzone and it was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever made in my life. I did a homemade checca sauce to go with, and I used King Arthur gluten-free pizza flour to make the dough.
PS. I’m planning to publish a bonus newsletter this month, and I need your questions! Ask me anything (leave a comment below or submit here) and I’ll do my best to answer it.
Now on to the good stuff… one of my secret shopping spots for designer furniture….
