It’s the week of love (and also Super Bowl Sunday, which I am equally as excited for). It feels like, in both cases, romance is really having a moment. Off the field, there’s the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, which I think most of us can’t help but root for. And with it being so close to Feb. 14, that just sweetens the whole deal.
I’m not sure if it’s the holiday itself, or just my own personal aesthetic, but I’m finding myself very drawn to romantic interiors lately. Splashes of pink, sumptuous textures…this is what I’m on the hunt for these days, both online and in vintage/thrift/antique shops. Here, I’ve rounded up some of the items that have caught my eye, with some notes about what to look for if you’re on the hunt yourself.
1970s leather chair by Tobia Scarpa // hand-lettered silk rug // dried bouquet // Twombly exhibition poster // scalloped marble tray // shearling throw
How to Shop the Look at the Thrift Store
Look for posters: Cy Twombly and Helen Frankenthaler are two artists whose work always feels at once romantic and also a little subversive. (Twombly and Frankenthaler posters are also pretty rare and valuable so if you find one, snatch it up stat.)
Shop for marble: There’s something utterly feminine about the imperfect lines and curves in a piece of marble. Marble tables, trays, glasses and lamps all add to a romantic ambiance.
Play with shapes: Scallops and waves (on the trim of a desk, or the shape of a mirror) add fluidity to a space.
Be a material girl: Look for silk, shearling, velvet…anything that feels soft-to-the-touch. A shearling or faux fur rug or throw tossed over a leather chair is about the sexiest thing I can think of, interiors-wise.
The romantic interiors I’m loving at the moment
Rapid Fire
Something worth reading: The Washington Post asked the screenwriters of 10 Things I Hate About You and Bring It On to dream up how the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce storyline ends.
Something worth watching: The Many Lives of Martha Stewart dives into the iconic television personality — from her early days as a female stockbroker on Wall Street, to her time in prison.
Something worth shopping: These slightly wide-legged cargo jeans feel perfect for spring (I’m envisioning them with a tucked-in vintage concert tee and a cardigan casually thrown on top).
and I’ll leave you with this…
