Red is having a moment. In fashion, the color is showing up all over the place. It’s never overwhelming but it makes a big statement, whether it’s on a chic red flat worn with an all-black ensemble, or an oversized red water bottle toted by Kendall Jenner leaving the gym.
Red is the most noticeable color to the human eye, so you don’t need a lot of it for there to be a big impact.
And as trends tend to do, it’s also making its way to the interiors world.
I love a good pop of red and to this day believe that my best outfit of all time was at the eighth grade school Valentine’s dance. My grandmother took me to a local department store called Jacobsen’s, where I picked out a new outfit and got my hair and makeup done. My hair was worn in this really avant-garde sort of bun and my outfit was a Calvin Klein black tee, graphic black and white mini-skirt, tights, and cherry red suede Hush Puppies loafers. Honestly, I’ve never looked better and I’ve been chasing that high ever since.
I will never be in eighth grade again but I can still turn to red to make a statement. I’ve rounded up a handful of my favorite ways to inject the color into your fall wardrobe, or your home — just a touch of red, but enough to make a statement.
This under-$100 sweater looks like it costs $400 and I will be wearing it nonstop the second temps get cooler.
I preordered these cargo jeans last week and cannot wait for their arrival. They are relaxed through the leg, the perfect length (won’t require a hem), and will be great with boots or loafers.
The Row’s soft loafer in red is incredible, but it is so expensive. This much more affordable option is great and offers a similar vibe.
I am often asked about the necklaces and bracelets I wear (I wear the same ones almost every day). Most likely, they are by Dorsey. This dog tag is high on my wish list and it can be engraved. Love this ear cuff, too.
This tomato red polo sweater from Gigi Hadid’s new line of cashmere knits is excellent. I want every single piece from the line, tbh. The sweaters manage to be both slightly oversized and also thin enough that they could be worn beneath a coat. The colors are gorgeous. Everything looks kind of vintage in the sense that it isn’t overtly trendy.
This fall and winter are going to be all about cargos for me. These sweatpant cargos are somehow very chic — wide-legged, with a drawstring waist.
I love a fancy earring with a low-key outfit. These are lab-grown gems, so they’re ethical and frankly just gorgeous.
Adidas Sambas forever (with these socks). And this great bag.
I adore this checkered blazer, which looks great with the green ribbed-knit tank (both are on sale).
A draped skirt that will take you from the office to cocktails (or could be worn with everything from flip-flops to heels).
These heeled sandals are perfect. No notes.
A brick red blush stick that’s as classic as it gets and the aforementioned ear cuff. Plus, a great bag.
I recently created two new prints for Artfully Walls and the red frame with each creates such a bold color palette. The pink one was the result of many requests and the yellow one is just a fun statement.
This stoneware plate is actually dishwasher safe (a rarity with a find like this!) and would look so cute on a nightstand, as a way to store your rings at night.
This lamp is portable (and around $150), so it can literally just be toted around your house until you find the right spot for it. You could even bring it outside when you’re having guests over and need some extra ambiance on the patio/backyard/wherever.
These desert plates (sold as a pair) would make a killer wedding or housewarming gift.
A wonderful coffee mug and an Ettore Sottsass corkscrew.
Listening to: Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, Guts. It’s excellent. Like the Barbie movie in music form, with so many lyrics that will resonate with women of all ages.
A recipe I made (& loved): this kale Caesar with crispy chickpeas is in heavy rotation in my household. I roast bone-in chicken breasts and shred them while still warm (so the residual heat kind of wilts the kale just a bit).
A worthy read: Anecdotal evidence shows that men think about the Roman Empire a lot, weirdly. There are several random things I personally think about a lot (notably: the alleged 90-minute dance-off that occurred in an LA club between Britney Spears and Justin Timerblake after their 2002 break-up).
and I’ll leave you with this…
Love this red round-up! I just included those loafers in my substack today! I may need that portable lamp... 😍
Dance off😂🤣🙌🏻
