Hunkering Down

Plus, a recipe for roast blueberry "jelly"

Greetings from Hurricane season. We stayed in Ponte Vedra during Ian, knowing that, when it passed near, it would be a Tropical Storm. We were very, very lucky when so many were not (here are some ways to help).

Hurricanes are interesting, because you have advanced notice and generally have some semblance of an idea of how bad it might be in your area. Since Ian was coming from the west, we knew it would get less organized on its path toward us. We figured we might lose power and would need enough food just to weather the storm and possibly for the day after, in case debris closed the roads. Enter: the humble peanut butter and jelly.

Tom loves a PB&J and I think they’re…fine. But I want my PB&J to be delicious. The easiest/best way to do that is to make your own jelly, and to fry the sandwich in butter á la grilled cheese.

The great thing about making a quick “jelly” is that you can serve it a number of ways: swirled into yogurt, as a topping for ice cream, or (seen here) on toast with ricotta or cream cheese.

PS. I promise the videos will get better. I am still learning! And sorry for the loud audio in the background. I personally like hearing kitchen sounds so I kept the background audio, but of course Alexa was blasting War on Drugs so some of that comes through pretty clear. Just trying to keep things casual!

ATNN: I’ve found the perfect sandal. These polka-dot Birkenstocks — from the brand’s Manolo Blahnik collaboration — could not be cuter. And, being the Birks that they are, you can bet they get high marks for comfort.

This Totéme tee has a curved seam, so it offers a really nice (read: flattering) fit. I am in the camp that you should invest in good basics, because you’ll wear them so frequently. This is one of the best. (And how good would it look with this earring, which is sadly sold out?)

I really, really, really love the brand Varley. They make athleisure but it’s all cut really well and can be worn outside the gym/off the couch. I bought my mom one of their jackets a few years ago and she loved it, so it became an annual thing for me to buy her a sweatshirt or jacket with the change of seasons. Then, I got really addicted to their sweatshirts and started buying them for myself. This one is perfect. Over a white tee, with some gold jewelry and a slicked back bun? Chic but still casual enough for the grocery run.

Good sunglasses are hard to find. I adore these.

What I’m reading/listening to this week:

  • This is the perfect home. I have no notes.

  • Vogue staffers rounded up their 40 wardrobe essentials heading into Fall and everything is surprisingly accessible (think striped tees and Adidas Gazelles).

  • I love a celebrity scandal. Here’s everything you need to know about the Try Guys scandal.

And I’ll leave you with this….
