There's a relatively new auction house in JAX where the prices don't get too too crazy:

They do almost weekly auctions on Sundays. (They list on estatesales.net too).

Definitely worth a looksee.

This was an excellent article, thank you, Virginia! I also really liked your linked article about thrifting that you wrote - congrats on that!

I've never been to an auction, and my city has a great auction house that is within walking distance of my home (https://www.lundsauctioneers.com/). I should really go...but I also have the feeling I might get carried away and go crazy buying stuff! I appreciate the tips for online bidding too.

That is the problem….the competitive nature and adrenaline takes over…

Thanks for the great advice! I’ve only done a few online auctions through Goodwill’s site several years ago. I did get a mid-century table for about $60 that was the same as one a furniture store in California was listing on Chairish for $800. Sadly mine only sold for about $120 on there but at least I made a little profit after messing with shipping for the buyer. I did notice the store still had the table listed for $800 even a year later when I was on the site so clearly it wasn’t being snatched up at that price! I actually wish I had kept the piece for myself because it was pretty unique and would be perfect for my now down-sized space 😩.

Love the dance video too - I actually hate the song but growing up in Tulsa, I remember my parents playing it more than 40 years ago and, rather annoyingly, I apparently still know many of the words 🙄.

This is great! I live in London and online auctions are basically a way of life here - this country is full of antiques from country estates that the younger heirs don’t want. I’ve gotten so many good things on online auctions, to include mahogany furniture from the 1800s for the dining room for less than $100 per piece (china cabinet, table, sideboard).
