Deck the Halls, But Make it Chic
Designer-approved holiday decor ideas to get you in the spirit
I have been… floating through life as of late. And not in a good way, really. A lot has happened following the publishing of my recent newsletter, which was largely about why I got interested in thrifting and interior design but also about my mom’s shooting and ensuing brain injury.
I won’t get into all the details of what has happened since except to say that it has left me feeling depleted. Exhausted. Unenthused about…anything.
But! I did perk up a little when Netflix announced their 2024 slate of upcoming Christmas movies.
Look, I love a high-brow, well-acted film. But I adore a trashy, requires-no-thinking movie featuring Chad Michael Murray with his shirt off.
And I don’t want to watch any of those movies unless it’s in my plaid onesie (which has paid dividends since I purchased it on Goop six years ago), next to a Christmas tree covered in ribbons.
That’s why I am officially declaring the holiday season on and I am ready to decorate ASAP. Consider the climate of, well, everything, I think we could all use a dose of holiday cheer, don’t you?
Last year, I was fortunate to be invited to a Christmas party at the White House and it was incredible. I mean really, truly, so festive and magical. There were trains running around trees — and a tree in every room! — and eggnog made to order and tables overflowing with delicious confections, and an enormous gingerbread replica of the White House.
The experience was one of the highlights of my life and I vowed to myself that, in the future, I’d take my holiday decorating a bit more seriously.
There are so many images that are inspiring me to decorate in a more outside-the-box way. This year, I’m decking the halls in a more childlike way, mixing vintage with new (as always) and relying on classic and hand-made favorites, like oversized ribbons (how great is this garland?) and tongue-in-cheek ornaments (like this one — just what the doctor ordered).
These are the most comfortable bra and panties I’ve ever owned and it isn’t even close. The bra is wire-free, but the cups are molded (so it keeps its shape and looks great under a t-shirt, but is as comfortable as a sports bra). And the undies don’t ride up (or down, at the waist), making them a wedgie-free dream.
The team at Vetted sent me a discount code to share with you all if you’re interested in trying out their dermatologist-backed skincare products. Virginia15 will get you 15% off products like the cleanser, light moisturizer, rich moisturizer, and the powerhouse and super gentle retinoid serum. // Code: VIRGINIA15
And the team at Tula also sent me a code, for 25% off anything until Nov. 15. That means you can grab my obsession — the cooling and brightening eye balm — or my favorite primer, at a pretty generous discount. // Code: VIRGINIA25
And I’ll leave you with this…
