As I hit “send” on this newsletter, I am in Paris (a 40th birthday trip that had been in the works for many years)! I’m here for a week and I am so excited to go to a different museum every day (especially the Hockney exhibit at the Louis Vuitton Foundation!), to eat baguette and butter in a gorgeous park, and take in as much vintage as I can stomach at Marche Puces à Saint Ouen. Also, the hotel room has its own private hammam/steam room which is very much my vibe.
If you’re new to this space, welcome! I had some new faces join from my live with Christene Barberich and it was so fun to connect with like-minded vintage freaks like myself. For those who don’t know, I am a longtime antiques dealer and seven-time Chairish Super Seller who wrote a best-selling book about how to shop for vintage called Big Thrift Energy. Thanks in large part to this newsletter, the book has resonated far beyond its publication date (I’ve sold more copies this year than the first year it came out) and I am so thrilled that more and more people are hopping on board the train.
I have been traveling a lot lately. I do a lot of public speaking gigs about my book, entrepreneurship, and shopping vintage which is amazing but I missed thrifting at home! So I did, last weekend.
I popped into one thrift store, one estate sale, and one antiques mall and I got three things. It’s about quality over quantity for me, always, and the items I got were really great. But I also saw lots of great things I didn’t buy and thought I would share all of the above and go into my thought process, here.
First, the finds.
