I think what I love most about the Parisian aesthetic is that it is so very 1970s. The Americanized version of Paris is very glam (high heels! florals!) but in reality, so much of the city feels sexy and subdued.

The bright purple upholstery of the metro seats has a space-age-like quality and the airport, with its rich browns and reds, looks like a 1970s film set (maybe even of the adult variety?)
No surprise, then, that out of the great body of work on display at the David Hockney exhibit at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, I was most drawn to his 1970s works. (A Bigger Splash is my all-time favorite work of art though Portrait of an Artist is a close second.)
But I also found myself really craving 1970s accents and lately, they’ve been showing up everywhere.
The Look in the Wild
If we’re talking 1970s, we have to talk about material. There’s chrome, which I’ve been loving on everything from small details (light fixtures) to big and bold furnishings (namely: tables). And then the less obvious, mbut equally important materials of the 1970s: mohair, wood, and rich, sexy upholstery.
At Milan Design Week 2025, Range Rover unveiled a very 1970s installation, one complete with vintage vehicles and mohair carpeting — plus wood paneling and lots of chrome accents.

This polished nickel pendant light isn’t vintage (which is great, because you won’t have to rewire it) but it feels authentically 1970s — albeit, with a little more shine.

I have this spotted catchall on my coffee table and find it so useful. I keep matches on one side and remotes on the other. The colors are very ‘70s.
A chrome and acrylic sconce I spotted recently at a thrift store. I love this so much but it was dinged up and also $50 (which, for the damage, was not a good price), so I left it.
How I’m Bringing the Look Home
ODDS & ENDS
I’ve always been a lover of jewelry, but lately I’ve really been drawn to all things beachy: anklets, shell motifs, colorful beads.
I recently ordered this beaded necklace, which adds a nice pop of color to even simple outfits. I also got this anklet from the same company. I think anklets are so sexy.
Sita Nevado is another recent fave of mine for jewelry. I love this beaded necklace, which does all the styling work for you — it’s three necklaces in one!
Heaven Mayhem’s large glass bead necklace is impossibly chic and gives off Elsa Peretti vibes for an affordable price.
The 70s are my favourite decade! Such great patterns.
I love 70s interiors, and I love the beaded necklaces you linked to. I’m on the hunt!
